BCRA Congressional Sponsors Introduce Resolutions to Overturn FEC's Final Soft Money Rules

On October 8th, Senators John McCain and Russell Feingold and Congressmen Christopher Shays and Marty Meehan introduced resolutions in the Senate (S.J.Res. 48) and House (H.J.Res. 119) respectively to overturn the FEC's final soft money rules. The sponsors of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 intend that the resolutions be considered under the procedures established by the Congressional Review Act for disapproving agency regulations.

FEC Releases Draft Final Soft Money Rules

The Federal Election Commission has released its draft of the new soft money rules which the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act ("BCRA") requires be in place by June 25th.  The Commission will meet on June 19th to vote on approval for the rules after making any changes they wish.  The final rules are expected to be approved by the FEC by June 21.
