The suit names the six Commissioners of the Federal Election Commission as well as Attorney General John Ashcroft as defendants. The suit asks the court to strike down the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act because it "eviscerates the core protections of the First Amendment by prohibiting, on pain of criminal punishment, political speech."
