Cases: EMILY's List v. FEC: Plaintiff Filings

EMILY's List Sues FEC Over Campaign Finance Laws

On January 12, 2005, EMILY's List, a political organization which supports female Democratic candidates who support abortion rights, filed a suit against the Federal Election Commission (FEC) in federal district court of the District of Columbia. The complaint was filed in an effort to prevent the FEC from enforcing rules that could possibly restrict how EMILY's List uses its contributions. The case (number 1:05CV004) was assigned to federal district judge Kollar-Kotelly, one of the three-judges that heard McConnell v. FEC in 2003 and ruled against the FEC in Shays v. FEC in 2004.
