Legal Center Files Motion to Intervene

On November 16, 2006, the U.S. District Court of the District of Connecticut entered an order setting the schedule for discovery and all dispositive motions in Green Party of Connecticut v. Garfield. This case was brought by the Green Party and the Connecticut ACLU and has been consolidated with a second suit, Association of CT Lobbyists v. Garfield. These consolidated cases challenge the constitutionality of Connecticut's recently-enacted public financing system and the restriction on campaign contributions from lobbyists and state contractors. According to the court order, all dispositive motions are due by March 19, 2007, and discovery must be complete by June 15, 2007.

The Campaign Legal Center is serving as co-counsel to the intervening defendants in this matter: Connecticut Citizen Action Group and Common Cause of Connecticut; and certain individuals who are either former candidates for state office or may be candidates in the future.
