May 3, 2006 -- Message to House Members

The Campaign Legal Center strongly urges you to vote against H.R. 4975, the Lobbying Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006. This legislation fails to achieve meaningful reform of current lobbying laws and ethics rules, and the rules do not even allow any needed strengthening amendments to be voted on.

Any minor improvements to the current lobbying system that this bill might bring about are far outweighed by what is missing from this bill. In addition, if this bill passes, some Members will likely use passage of this bill as an excuse to put off further action on meaningful and needed lobbying reforms for several years.

In this case, Members do not face a choice between the "perfect" and the "good." Rather, the only choice you have is the "unworthy" and H.R.4975 is certainly that.

We urge you to oppose H.R. 4975. A vote NO will help to ensure that the House takes up real lobbying reform in the 109th Congress.
