Aug 21, 2008 -- Von Spakovsky's Hiring to US Commission on Civil Rights: Statement of J. Gerald Hebert, Campaign Legal Center Executive Director

The news that Hans von Spakovsky has been hired by the US Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) is absolutely disgraceful and speaks volumes about the political patronage still being doled out by the current Administration. Reportedly Todd Gaziano, a von Spakovsky apologist and Commissioner at USCCR, choose to bring him in the back door as a "special assistant" after von Spakovsky's shameful record at the Department of Justice prevented him from achieving Senate confirmation to the Federal Election Commission.

Even though the USCCR is widely regarded as a politicized laughingstock, shunned by the Civil Rights community, the hiring of von Spakovsky is a cynical abuse of patronage and a waste of tax dollars. von Spakovsky has no business collecting a government pay check in any position dealing with civil rights or voting rights. Congress should be closely examining how this hiring came about.
